In these heavy and heartbreaking times, we stand in unwavering solidarity with la gente—our community. The images and experiences emerging from across our city of Los Angeles echo a painful history we know all too well: the use of force, fear, and federal overreach to suppress, displace, and criminalize our families, neighbors, friends, and community.

We are devastated by the mass deportation raids taking place across our neighborhoods. These raids do not make our communities safer. Instead, they create fear, instability, and exacerbate trauma amongst us all. As an organization rooted in justice, equity, and the liberation of all people, we firmly condemn the use of immigration raids, the denial of due process, and deportations used as tools of oppression. There have been incriminating narratives based in fear and lies used to justify these heinous actions, but those of us who are part of this community know the truth. These actions—disguised as policy—are an affront to humanity. The presence of militarized federal forces being deployed against immigrant and marginalized communities, without local oversight and in direct contradiction to the will of our state’s elected leaders, is deeply alarming. We condemn the unlawful use of militarized enforcement, particularly when aimed at families, workers, and community members who contribute to the beauty of our city and who deserve safety—not persecution. We stand in support of local government officials who have been detained for standing up for their constituents. We stand in solidarity with our sister organizations and partners as we struggle to navigate this time of widespread defunding, layoffs, and outright dismantling of our efforts to provide resources, healthcare, housing and refuge for our communities, which certainly include our immigrant and undocumented siblings. 

REACH LA was birthed in 1992 during the Los Angeles Uprising, a moment of reckoning when our city cried out against systemic injustice and militarized policing. It was then that we committed ourselves to creating a space for healing, resistance, and rebuilding. More than 30 years later, we continue the fight today—because once again, our community is under siege.

We refuse to accept a narrative that frames this moment solely in terms of chaos, destruction, and rioting. What we see is pain, and we encourage our community to know and exercise our right to peacefully protest our people and demand justice for those whose voices have been silenced. We are emboldened by the weight of generations still fighting to be seen, heard, and protected.

In the face of these conditions we stand to protect our commitment to fortifying the safety of our space and our ability to communicate awareness, provide resources, and mobilize our people. We know that we are resilient, and will continue to stand strongly, even as institutions and agencies attempt to silence, displace, and attack. Let this moment be one where history remembers not just who tried to divide us—but who showed up to protect, engage, and empower our community and protect our city.
